Cambridge Funding Solutions helps businesses to raise external finance for technology R&D projects. Our in-house speciality is public sector grant funding but we have associates who can assist with obtaining bank funding or other forms of operational finance, and with raising equity finance.
Based in Cambridge UK, we specialise particularly in grants for technology research and development, such as Innovate UK's Smart scheme, Collaborative R&D competitions and Small Business Research Initiative, as well as the European Union's Horizon 2020 Programme and other programmes for the support of R&D and innovation. However, we can also help with other types of public sector grants, including those for social enterprises and business intermediaries.
Our approach is always to start with an overall assessment of our client's business, challenges and opportunities, and the role that external finance can play in helping the business to move forward. Grant funding is not always the best way forward, or the timing may not be right, in which case we can suggest alternatives and specialist advisers and service providers who may be able to help.
Cambridge Funding Solutions was founded by Alex Smeets, who has more than 15 years experience of writing and assessing grant funding applications and delivering grant-funded projects. He was a grant assessor for the Dutch government in the nineties and later assisted businesses with accessing EU grants for the European Commission and EU grants as well as DTI grants for the East of England Development Agency. He later became a presenter and mentor under the East of England Understanding Finance for Business Programme, and is currently a volunteer mentor for the Judge Business School's Accelerate Cambridge programme, an assessor for Innovate UK's Smart scheme and occasionally also for the European Commission and EUREKA Eurostars Programme.
